Congratulations to an incredible project team who designed, engineered, and built the true definition of complexity – James Cook University Central Plaza. Your efforts are officially rewarded!
While a relatively small project, the structure was extraordinarily complex and made up of intricate millimetre-perfect human-made detail which took meticulous design and construction to replicate. The important civic space straddles the Wadda Mooli Creek and via a large event lawn, a water feature and pathways the southern half of the campus to the northern half along the central cross-axis are connected. Shade canopies, tropical planting, and urban water features keep the space shaded and cool, whilst a rich and diverse ground-scape will provide spaces for seating, socialising, performances, public address, games, markets, gatherings, and other pop-up activities.
