When Woollam constructions was engaged to construct James Cook University (JCU) Central Plaza, we knew we were there to construct more than a new social and entertainment hub of the university. While a relatively small project, the structure was extraordinarily complex and made up of intricate millimetre-perfect human-made detail which took meticulous design and construction to replicate.

The incredible volume of the complex canopy is amplified with the inclusion of Quandamooka artist Megan Cope’s ‘After the flood’.
Seamlessly integrated within the curved soffit of the canopy, this work is a continuation of Cope’s flooded landscape series and illustrates the changing environments, identities, geomorphology and mapping.
