Woollam had over 25 staff working on the project and almost 500 contractors on the site during the 12 month construction process. With approximately 3,000 square metres of water space (approximately three Olympic-size swimming pools), three million litres of water, 40 lineal metres of cascade rockery, a 17 metre long waterfall and landscaping made up of almost 9,000 plants, Mackay’s Bluewater Lagoon is a modern day masterpiece.
Winner: QMBA Sporting and Community Service Facilities $4-$15M, Regional Project of the Year (2009)
Much of the work has been fairly new to a lot of the trades so it’s been a unique experience to each and every one of them. I feel everyone put a lot of pride into their work and showed a real commitment to the process because it has been so different. It’s this level of craftsmanship and professionalism that has truly brought it all together and made the project such a success.
